Turkish lentil soup is one of the main flavors of Turkish cuisine. It is indispensable for guest tables. There are many different types of lentil soup. In this recipe, we will share with you how to make restaurant-style lentil soup. The ingredients for the soup are listed below:

  • 3 tablespoons of oil
  • 1 large onion (chopped coarsely)
  • 1 medium carrot (chopped coarsely)
  • 1 large potato (chopped coarsely)
  • 1 tablespoon of flour
  • 1 dessert spoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1 and a half water glasses of red or yellow lentils
  • 6 water glasses of hot water (or 3 glasses of hot water and 3 glasses of broth)

For the sauce on it:

  • 3 tablespoons of oil
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 1 dessert spoon of red pepper powder

How to make Turkish lentil soup?

  1. To prepare the Turkish lentil soup recipe, first put 3 tablespoons of oil in a pot and heat. Fry chopped onions with oil.
  2. Next, add flour and fry until turns slightly brown in color. Then, add chopped carrots and potatoes and mix.
  3. After that, add the lentils that you have washed in plenty of water and drained.
  4. Finally, add salt, black pepper and hot water and mix.
  5. Close the lid, and cook the soup on medium heat, stirring occasionally, until potatoes and carrots are soft (approximately 40 minutes).
  6. After the soup is cooked, puree it with a hand blender to get a smooth consistency.
  7. Next, cook for another 5 minutes and turn off the stove (If the consistency is thick, you can add hot water)
  8. Meanwhile, for the sauce, heat oil and butter in another pan. Add red pepper powder and fry it until the color of the pepper turns slightly darker.
  9. Take the Turkish lentil soup to a bowl, pour the sauce on it and serve.
